What is the Temperature Converter?

The Temperature Converter is a fast, free online tool for translating temperature degrees between the three major scales: Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin. It calculates the exact conversions instantly as you type.

The Three Temperature Scales

Celsius (°C): Used by most of the world, this scale is based on water freezing at 0°C and boiling at 100°C.

Fahrenheit (°F): Primarily used in the United States, water freezes at 32°F and boils at 212°F on this scale.

Kelvin (K): The base unit of temperature in the International System of Units (SI), used primarily by scientists. It begins at absolute zero (the coldest possible temperature in the universe), which is 0 K.

How to use this tool

  • Enter a temperature value into the Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin input box.
  • The calculator will automatically update the other two boxes with the converted temperatures.
  • The tool handles negative temperatures seamlessly.

Frequently Asked Questions

The formula is: (°C × 9/5) + 32 = °F. To do a quick mental estimate, you can double the Celsius temperature and add 30.
Celsius and Fahrenheit intersect and show the exact same numerical value at -40 degrees (-40°C = -40°F).
Absolute zero is the theoretical temperature where all thermodynamic movement stops. It is defined as 0 Kelvin, which is equal to -273.15°C or -459.67°F.
